Pale upright posts in the water of the Grand Canal are where the gondolas are tied up.
In this picture they represent a ghostly glimpse of the wharf at Riva Deghli Schiavoni, just off the edge of St Mark's Square.
Due to the mist, it's impossible to see the glorious church San Giorgio Maggiore, which sits majestically across the canal.
